3 musts to increase reading speed
On your way to become a speed reader there are at least 3 musts to increase reading speed. Once you are ready for a speed reading practice there is a need to make sure all conditions, internal and external are meant to allow you to do it. Here are some advices to let you create your speed reading procedure comfortably and with no interruptions.
Focus yourself and eliminate all distractions possible
Mental quietness
Are you mentally quiet and ready for mental exertion? If yes then start speed reading. Are you tensed, distracted by other thoughts? What I do every morning is running. Not much, about 25 minutes. Then I do some kung fu exercises and meditation. For me it works great and allows me being focused the rest of my day, even when there is lots of work to do and I have to be very focused all day long.
I’m aware that for many people having a quiet mind is not their top priority so exercising 90 minutes a day is not an option. But when we say that there are 3 musts to increase reading speed the path has been signed. Now, what about 20? 30? Do what you like: Yoga, Jogging, swimming, meditating… do what that works for you. Just make your interior conditions quiet and capable to read really fast.
Physical needs
Are you thirsty or Hungry? If you are remember that the forces within yourself that object to your wish of acquiring new capacities such as reading much faster are strong and will look for reasons to slow you and stop you. There for just give them the respect they deserve, not more not less. Eat enough so you won’t be hungry during reading, not too much so you won’t get sleepy. Drink hot or cold beverage to refresh yourself.
External conditions
Are there any noises around? Is your seat comfortable? Is the light strong enough but not too much so to flash into your eyes? Are there noises that might distract your attention? Is the door closed and anyone can get in and interrupt?
Have yourself a comfortable seat, good warm light, no music unless helps you to avoid extraction, closed door.
